Breaking news!

NHE announces a new literary partnership for a period of 3 months with Damian Barr and his acclaimed Literary Salon and podcast.

ABOUT THE SALON

Damian Barr’s Literary Salon tempts the world’s finest writers to the world’s loveliest venues to read from their latest greatest works and share their own stories.  Their current London home is the Savoy Hotel where dear Oscar feasted with panthers.

Damian aims to showcase established names alongside emerging talents.  Bret Easton Ellis, Armistead Maupin, Lionel Shriver, Tracey Thorn, John Waters, David Mitchell and Diana Athill are just some of the writers who’ve graced the Salon since its inauguration at Shoreditch House in 2008 –   all sharing new stories just for you.

It’s where David Nicholls launched One Day and Caitlin Moran unveiled her Moranifesto.  Patrick Gale shared A Place Called Winter as a work in progress and Maggie O’Farrell gave us a glimpse of Instruction for a Heatwave when it didn’t even have a title.  SJ Watson got site-specific with a sex scene in St Pancras. Helen Fielding read from printer-fresh pages and Jojo Moyes reduced us all to tears before anyone else with Me Before You.  Yaa Gyasi, Garth Greenwell and Taiye Selasi all made their UK debut at the Salon.

The Savoy has long been loved by the literati: Zola, Twain, Maugham and countless shelves of others have enjoyed the hotel’s hospitality since it opened in 1889.  The Salon is honoured to be the next chapter of this story and their Salons take place in the Lancaster Ballroom.

Thanks to the British Council they’ve popped up in Moscow, Istanbul, Sydney, Auckland, Sao Paolo, San Francisco, Toronto and Kuala Lumpur.  Polly Samson and David Gilmour swung by the Salon with Jonathan Lee at the Ace Hotel in NYC.  Partners include the National Trust, Hendrick’s Gin, Sho House, Hay, The Man Booker Prize and the BBC National Short Story Awards, and now Notting Hill Editions (lucky us!).

Currently the Salon is available as in-flight entertainment on British Airways.  But you don’t need to get on a plane to enjoy the podcast, you can listen to it on SoundCloud or subscribe to it on iTunes.

ABOUT THE PARTNERSHIP

Damian Barr has kindly agreed to offer complimentary tickets to his first salon of the year. Watch out for our social media posts and newsletters in the months to come and you and a partner could be the lucky winners! There will be one further giveaway in future. We will keep you posted.
